We are raising money to support our upcoming Sankofa Symposium and Reception.

Co-chaired by Wheelock College President Jackie Jenkins-Scott and CAYL President Dr. Valora Washington, the Sankofa Symposium and Reception will give early educators, professionals, funders, decision-makers, and the community-at-large the valuable opportunity to participate in a retrospection on the state of early education and care over the last decade from a state and national perspective, to discuss the current realities for the field, and to explore opportunities and innovations for the future.

We are excited that Laura Bornfreund of the New America Foundation, Tom Weber, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, Jeff Bernstein of MassBudget, Pam Perrino of the Raymond John Wean Foundation, and other guest experts have committed to participate in the Sankofa Symposium as guest experts.

Since 2004 CAYL has:
•Organized 68 events (counting a series as one event) including a “who’s who” of early childhood experts such as Jacqueline Jones, Ellen Galinsky, Barbara Bowman and many others. Statewide experts have included: state legislators, Noah Berger, Josh Flax, and many others;
•Designed/wrote 27 papers and resource materials in print (;
•Produced four videos/toolkits (;
•Convened four national conferences held in Massachusetts, Ohio, Maryland, and Florida;
•Organized and led two international study tours to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic (;
•Organized 8 QRIS (quality rating and improvement systems) trainings across the state of Massachusetts; and
•Facilitated the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 Educators and Provider (EPC) grantee meetings.

Raised of a $5,000 goal.
